OUR MISSION

Veterans Cooperative is a private non-profit foundation whose mission is to support veterans through programs that focus on Home, Health & Wellness, Food Security, Emergencies and Education.

Alton “Doc” Coleman is a U.S. Navy veteran who served as a Fleet Marine Force Corpsman with the U.S. Marine Corps' 3rd Marine Division.  In 2017 he joined the Marine Corps League and today serves as a Past Detachment Commandant (Unicoi 783) and is the Sr. Vice Commandant for the MCL's Department of Georgia.

His wife Tammy, a retired high school math teacher of 30 years, serves as Detachment 783's Paymaster, the Department of Georgia's Adjutant and the Sr. Vice President of the MCL Auxiliary's Georgia Peaches.  She is the Editor of 783's Gung Ho Gazette and its Americanism Project.

Through their involvement with veteran service organizations, they have witnessed the hurdles veteran service organizations face when fundraising.  In 2024, Doc and Tammy established Veterans Cooperative, a private 501(c)(3) non-profit foundation to support Detachment 783 and its mission.
